Start with the project, not a generic preceptor request
A useful Georgia search begins by stating what the student must accomplish. Aspen's five MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. Each carries 120 practicum hours, but the right setting differs sharply by specialty. Aspen has no nurse practitioner track, so a request for an NP clinical preceptor would describe the wrong academic experience and send outreach to the wrong people.
The MSN preceptor is a Registered Nurse affiliated with the proposed site, educated at the master's level, and experienced in the student's specialty. Administration divides its 120 hours between N550 at 40 and N586AM at 80. Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include a minimum 20 direct-care hours within the 120. Informatics and Administration do not have that minimum, although both still require a real practice setting, project access, and appropriate supervision.
The Georgia Board of Nursing has a defined role
The Georgia Board of Nursing, housed within the Secretary of State's professional licensing division, regulates nursing licensure in Georgia. Use its official pages and license tools to check a prospective RN preceptor's status and to understand state licensing requirements. Avoid relying on a directory profile or an employer biography when an official license record is available.
Licensure verification is necessary, but it is not Aspen academic approval. Aspen's Office of Field Experience reviews the proposed site, project fit, preceptor qualifications, agreements, and student documents. The Georgia organization may conduct an additional review for privacy, safety, background, vaccination, training, or data access. A responsible plan leaves time for each decision and does not call a site approved until OFE has issued the applicable letter.
Match the Georgia region to the specialty
Metro Atlanta offers the broadest mix of major health systems, public agencies, education teams, informatics departments, professional organizations, and administrative offices. Augusta and Macon have academic and regional health resources. Savannah can support coastal public-health, hospital, education, and community work. Columbus, Athens, Albany, Rome, and Valdosta may yield smaller networks where a focused introduction reaches the responsible leader more directly.
Public Health students can look at state, district, county, school-health, prevention, and community programs. Nursing Education students may approach staff-development or continuing-education teams. Informatics students can target clinical systems, HIM, documentation improvement, or data-quality groups. Administration students need a site with a leadership question that allows meaningful involvement. Forensic Nursing may align with emergency care, corrections, law enforcement collaboration, courts, or victim services when both the project and the required direct-care component fit.
Questions that improve the first conversation

- Can the organization support a student-led quality-improvement project rather than simple observation?
- Will the student have appropriate access to stakeholders, workflow information, and approved data?
- Which facility reviews must be completed before OFE can finalize the placement?
A realistic 120-hour Georgia schedule
Rather than asking a leader to host 120 undefined hours, outline the work. A practicum calendar can include project scoping, evidence review, stakeholder interviews, baseline assessment, approved implementation work, education, evaluation, and reporting. Students in the three specialties with a direct-care minimum must identify where those 20 hours will occur and how they will be documented. A promising project that cannot support the required component is not yet a complete placement plan.
Georgia health organizations can have lengthy student-placement and information-security reviews. Rural sites may have fewer formal education staff but closer access to decision makers. Large Atlanta systems may offer deep resources but fixed affiliation deadlines. Ask about course dates, weekly availability, project ownership, documentation, and signature responsibility early. Do not start hours based on an informal invitation. The approval letter should come first.
Different Aspen programs need different planning
An RN-to-MSN student has undergraduate field experience before the 120-hour graduate practicum, so the full plan is more than a single capstone placement. RN-to-BSN students should use the current course requirements: N492 lists 30 field hours, N493 lists 80, and N496 lists 10. Those figures total 120, although Aspen's current catalog heading says 110. Students should confirm which catalog and handbook apply to them before asking a Georgia organization for a particular commitment.
The DNP requires 1,000 supervised immersion hours across eight courses at 125 hours each. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. The site must support the DNP project, and the current requirement calls for an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with relevant leadership and topic expertise. Aspen IRB approval must precede data collection or analysis. For DNP students, organizational authorization and data feasibility are as important as finding an individual willing to precept.
Move a prospective match through OFE
The Office of Field Experience assists with placement questions, approval, and alternative-location discussions. The current approval process may call for a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, a physically signed Preceptor Agreement, a preceptor CV and license report, a student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. The site can add its own items. The Student Performance Evaluation comes later in the educational process and should not be presented as an initial approval document.
After review, obtain the Practicum Approval Letter or DNP Immersion Approval Letter that applies to the course. Then follow the course directions for ProjectConcert hour logs, signed reports, and evaluations. If a Georgia preceptor changes departments, leaves the facility, or loses access to the project, notify OFE before treating another supervisor or site as an automatic substitute.
