Define the Aspen requirement accurately
Aspen currently has no nurse practitioner tracks. Its graduate placements in Idaho support five MSN specialties and a practice-focused DNP. That distinction keeps the search aimed at leaders, educators, informatics professionals, public-health teams, and forensic settings that can support a quality-improvement project, rather than outpatient clinicians being asked to supervise NP diagnosis and treatment hours.
Every MSN specialty requires 120 practicum hours with a site-affiliated RN who holds a master's degree and has relevant expertise. Administration uses 40 hours in N550 and 80 in N586AM. Nursing Education, Public Health, and Forensic Nursing each include a minimum 20 direct-care hours. Informatics and Administration do not have that minimum. The project and setting still must match the specialty and the expectations in the student's current course materials.
Check Idaho licensing through the state
The Idaho Board of Nursing is part of the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses. Its official site links nursing rules, licensing information, and verification services. Use the state record when checking an RN preceptor's license. The prospective preceptor's graduate education, expertise, and formal connection to the site also need documentation for Aspen's review.
The Idaho Board regulates nursing licensure, but it does not approve an Aspen course placement. OFE decides whether the academic arrangement meets Aspen requirements. The Idaho organization decides whether it will host the student and may add affiliation, privacy, training, immunization, background, or data-access steps. A complete search anticipates each authority and does not describe the site as approved until Aspen issues the applicable letter.
Search beyond one type of Idaho organization
Boise and the Treasure Valley have the state's largest concentration of health systems, government offices, public-health programs, professional groups, education teams, and informatics operations. Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell extend that regional network. Eastern Idaho searches may center on Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Rexburg, while northern options include Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston, and Moscow. Twin Falls can serve south-central students who need a regional rather than metropolitan plan.
Match outreach to the academic specialty. Public Health can fit district health departments, schools, prevention programs, and community agencies. Nursing Education can fit hospital staff development or continuing education. Informatics may fit HIM, clinical applications, data governance, or documentation teams. Administration students need access to a leadership or operational improvement question. Forensic Nursing can involve emergency services, corrections, victim advocacy, or law enforcement partnerships, with special attention to the direct-care component and confidentiality.

Plan hours around access and supervision
The 120 MSN hours can cover approved project planning, evidence review, stakeholder work, baseline assessment, implementation, education, evaluation, and reporting. It is not necessary for the preceptor to be physically beside the student during every task, but the preceptor remains responsible for appropriate oversight and the organization must support the project. Students with the 20-hour direct-care minimum need a specific plan for where that work will occur.
In Idaho, travel between communities and winter conditions can affect an otherwise sound schedule. Agree on weekly expectations, access to meetings or data, alternate dates, and signature procedures before the course begins. A verbal invitation is only a starting point. Wait for the Practicum Approval Letter, then record eligible work in ProjectConcert according to the current course instructions.
Include bridge, field, or immersion requirements
RN-to-MSN students have undergraduate field experience before the graduate 120-hour practicum. A long-range Idaho plan should acknowledge both phases even when different sites will be used. In RN-to-BSN, the current handbook lists 30 hours for N492, 80 for N493, and 10 for N496. These figures total 120, while Aspen's catalog heading says 110. Students should confirm the governing materials rather than presenting one total as universally settled.
DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours across eight 125-hour courses. Aspen may approve up to 500 verified prior precepted hours for banking. The DNP site needs to support the project across the sequence, and the preceptor must be an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated professional with relevant leadership and project-topic knowledge. Aspen IRB approval must be in place before data collection or analysis begins.
Complete OFE approval in the right order
OFE can assist with placement questions and alternative-location discussions while reviewing the proposed arrangement. Current materials may include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. Facility requirements may come on top of those. The Student Performance Evaluation belongs later in the experience and is not an initial approval document.
Do not start the practicum or DNP immersion until OFE issues the corresponding approval letter. Maintain ProjectConcert entries and required reports after approval. If an Idaho site merges, the preceptor changes employment, the project loses organizational sponsorship, or access shifts to a different facility, contact OFE before assuming the prior approval still covers the new arrangement.
In-person and virtual practicum routes in Idaho
Some approved project tasks can occur away from the physical site, especially research, planning, analysis, or writing.
