Match the request to Aspen's non-NP programs
Aspen University offers no nurse practitioner tracks. Its five MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. Each carries 120 practicum hours centered on a project. The MSN preceptor must be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and expertise relevant to the specialty. Asking for an NP rotation can therefore direct your request to a department that cannot support the actual assignment.

Build a plan that can survive schedule changes
Louisiana students should discuss the site's operating calendar and contingency rules before setting a project schedule. Weather events, organizational priorities, staffing changes, or closures can affect access without changing the academic requirement. Create a schedule with specific milestones for orientation, project planning, direct-care activity when required, preceptor reviews, and ProjectConcert documentation. Ask the site and Aspen what must happen if access is interrupted.
A backup does not mean beginning at an unapproved location. It means identifying another plausible department or site, understanding the paperwork, and contacting OFE if the original plan becomes unworkable. OFE assists with placement questions, approvals, and alternative locations. If a preceptor withdraws, stop new hours and follow the replacement action plan before continuing elsewhere.
Complete the approval file in the right order
Many students explore their workplace first, but familiarity with a Louisiana organization does not equal academic approval. Materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. Confirm the current packet with OFE and identify which site office can sign an agreement.
Do not begin until Aspen issues the applicable Practicum Approval Letter or DNP Immersion Approval Letter. Record approved hours and required reports in ProjectConcert after the start. DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours across eight 125-hour courses and need an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with leadership and project expertise. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. IRB approval must come before data collection or analysis.
Remember the earlier field requirements
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience and later the 120-hour graduate practicum, so a Louisiana plan should not describe the graduate project as their only field requirement. RN-to-BSN students see course figures of N492 at 30 hours, N493 at 80 hours, and N496 at 10 hours. Those figures add to 120, while an Aspen catalog heading says 110. Confirm the catalog and course requirements that apply to your enrollment.
