Aspen currently offers no nurse practitioner tracks. MSN students complete a 120-hour project-based practicum in Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, or Public Health. A proposed Michigan preceptor must be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and expertise relevant to that specialty. The project topic, not a generic need for supervision, should lead the search.
Write down the project's problem, population or department, access needs, activities, anticipated dates, and any direct-care component. Then decide how far you can travel consistently. A site that fits the project but cannot support your schedule is not a workable match. A convenient site that lacks the right department or preceptor is not one either.
Michigan offers several distinct search regions
Detroit and its suburbs provide health systems, public-health programs, community organizations, correctional and forensic settings, education departments, and large informatics or quality teams. Ann Arbor adds academic and research-oriented environments. Lansing can suit administration, policy, public-health, workforce, and statewide program work. Grand Rapids offers regional health systems, education partners, nonprofit organizations, and operational teams.
Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland may fit population health, education, quality, and community projects. Kalamazoo and Battle Creek add health, academic, public-service, and administrative settings in southwest Michigan. Traverse City serves a broad northern region, while Marquette can anchor an Upper Peninsula search. In less dense areas, consider local health departments, schools, regional hospitals, community agencies, and multi-site organizations rather than waiting on one large system.
Match Michigan departments to Aspen specialties
Nursing Education projects can fit staff development, simulation, academic nursing, onboarding, or community education. Informatics can fit clinical applications, HIM, EHR education, data quality, and workflow improvement. Administration and Management can fit operations, patient safety, care coordination, workforce, or quality offices. Public Health can fit county health departments, schools, community programs, occupational health, or population-health teams. Forensic Nursing may fit correctional health, emergency services, advocacy, or violence-response programs.
Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include at least 20 direct-care hours within the 120, so the site must support both the project and that experience. Informatics and Administration do not have that direct-care minimum. Administration divides its hours into N550 at 40 and N586AM at 80. Michigan does not make Aspen's academic placement decision. Keep each program's field work straight
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience and later the graduate 120-hour practicum. Do not present the graduate project to a Michigan site as their only field requirement. RN-to-BSN materials list N492 at 30 hours, N493 at 80 hours, and N496 at 10 hours. Those course figures total 120 while an Aspen catalog heading says 110, so confirm which catalog and course directions apply.
DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours in eight 125-hour courses. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. The site needs an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with relevant leadership and project expertise. A Michigan DNP search should test project access and preceptor continuity across the sequence, not merely locate someone with a doctorate.
