The Minnesota Board verifies the nursing credential
The Minnesota Board of Nursing regulates nursing licensure and practice. Its official state site provides license and permit verification, applications, renewal information, laws and rules, education resources, meetings, and complaint services. Use the Board's official verification tool to confirm a potential preceptor's Minnesota RN license and retain the result with the preceptor CV and license report.
The Board does not approve the Aspen project or decide whether a site meets course outcomes. Aspen and OFE handle academic approval, while the Minnesota organization decides whether it can host the student, support the work, and sign the applicable agreement. License verification, site participation, and academic approval are connected but separate checks.
Translate the five specialties into local settings
Aspen offers no nurse practitioner tracks. The MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health, and each includes a 120-hour project-based practicum. A proposed MSN preceptor must be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and specialty-relevant expertise. Lead with that project framework when contacting a Minnesota organization.
Nursing Education may fit professional development, simulation, academic nursing, or community education. Informatics may fit EHR training, clinical applications, HIM, analytics support, or workflow teams. Administration may fit operations, workforce, patient safety, care coordination, or quality improvement. Public Health can fit county or city health departments, schools, tribal or community organizations, and population-health programs. Forensic Nursing may fit correctional health, emergency services, advocacy, or multidisciplinary response programs.

Check the composition of the hours
Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health require at least 20 direct-care hours within the 120 MSN hours. Informatics and Administration do not have that direct-care minimum. Administration splits the requirement between N550 at 40 hours and N586AM at 80 hours. Ask a Minnesota site whether it can support each required activity, especially if the project is primarily administrative or educational.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience and later the 120-hour graduate practicum, so the current placement must be described in the context of the right program stage. RN-to-BSN materials list N492 at 30 hours, N493 at 80 hours, and N496 at 10 hours. These add to 120, while an Aspen catalog heading states 110. Confirm the applicable catalog and course instructions.
Build the approval packet before the term pressure rises
Many students first explore their Minnesota workplace. A familiar setting can help with access, but it still needs a suitable project, qualified preceptor, organization approval, and academic review. Materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV.

Give a DNP project enough runway
Aspen DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours in eight 125-hour courses. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. The Minnesota arrangement needs an approved site and an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with relevant leadership and project expertise. Confirm that site access and supervision can continue through the project sequence.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis. The Minnesota organization may have its own project, data, privacy, or research review, which does not replace Aspen's requirements. Ask both parties what applies and do not start restricted activity until every required approval is documented.
