Begin with the project function

Aspen's MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. An education project may fit staff development, competency, simulation, or patient teaching. Informatics may belong with nursing informatics, clinical applications, or documentation improvement. Administration often fits quality, safety, operations, or nursing leadership, while Public Health can connect to prevention, community education, or population programs.
Forensic Nursing requires a closer specialty match. Potential settings can include trauma services, correctional health, advocacy programs, or another organization where a qualified nurse has relevant expertise. A general clinical unit is not automatically a forensic site. In every specialty, the project, department, and preceptor should form one coherent proposal that Aspen can evaluate.
Mississippi cities offer different starting points

Gulfport and Biloxi may support regional hospital, community, and public-health projects along the Gulf Coast. Hattiesburg offers health-system and education settings, while Meridian, Tupelo, and Southaven can provide regional care organizations, staff-development teams, and operational departments. Students in the Delta or other rural areas may find population-health and access projects, provided the site has the necessary preceptor and project capacity.
Ask a specific department whether it can support the activities, not merely whether the facility takes students. A short request should name Aspen, explain that the practicum is project-based, identify the specialty, summarize the project, and give the dates and hours. This helps a Mississippi contact decide whether the request belongs with that team.
The Mississippi Board regulates licenses, not Aspen placement
The Mississippi Board of Nursing regulates nursing practice through licensure and provides official information about Mississippi nursing laws, rules, verification, and professional responsibilities. Students and proposed preceptors should use the Board for state licensing and practice questions.
Aspen University and the Office of Field Experience, or OFE, decide whether the academic site, preceptor, project, and documents meet program requirements. The Board does not issue an Aspen approval letter. For an MSN practicum, Aspen expects a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and expertise relevant to the student's specialty. The Mississippi organization can also require orientation, privacy training, compliance review, or its own project approval.
Translate Aspen hours into a site commitment
Each Aspen MSN specialty has a 120-hour practicum. Administration and Management divides it between N550 at 40 hours and N586AM at 80. Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include at least 20 direct-care hours within the 120. Informatics and Administration do not have that direct-care minimum. Show the proposed preceptor an activity and calendar outline before asking for a signature.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience before the graduate practicum, so 120 graduate hours are not their only field requirement. RN-to-BSN students should confirm the catalog that applies to them. The course breakdown is N492 at 30 hours, N493 at 80, and N496 at 10, which adds to 120, while Aspen's catalog heading says 110. Confirmation is better than treating either figure as universal.

Complete OFE review before the first hour
OFE assists with placement questions, approvals, and alternative locations. Many Mississippi students explore their workplace first, but employment does not waive review. The packet can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. A facility may add its own agreement or access documents.
Wait for the applicable Practicum Approval Letter before beginning. After approval, hours and required reports are recorded in ProjectConcert. Keep the approved scope close while entering time so the record shows how meetings, teaching, analysis, observation, or direct-care activity supported the project. DNP immersion needs continuity and on-site supervision
Aspen DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours in eight 125-hour courses. Aspen may approve and bank up to 500 verified prior precepted hours. A Mississippi DNP site requires an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with leadership and project expertise. The organization and preceptor should be able to support work across more than one course when the project requires it.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis, and the site may have a separate review path.
