Aspen's MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. Education can involve competency or patient teaching. Informatics may fit clinical systems and documentation workflow. Administration can connect with operations, safety, and quality. Public Health can involve prevention or community education. Forensic Nursing requires a site with relevant expertise, potentially in trauma, correctional health, advocacy, or a related service.
The New Mexico Board answers regulatory questions
The New Mexico Board of Nursing regulates nursing licensure and practice and provides official license verification, rules, education, practice, complaint, and Board information. Students and proposed preceptors should use the Board's resources when a question concerns New Mexico nursing requirements.
Aspen University and the Office of Field Experience, or OFE, decide whether the academic site, project, preceptor, and documentation satisfy the program. The Board does not issue Aspen's approval letter. The site also controls internal access, privacy, project review, and orientation. These responsibilities should be addressed separately.
Confirm preceptor fit and the hour structure together
An Aspen MSN preceptor should be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and expertise relevant to the student's specialty. Each MSN specialty includes 120 practicum hours. Administration and Management separates them into N550 at 40 hours and N586AM at 80. Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include at least 20 direct-care hours within the 120. Informatics and Administration have no direct-care minimum.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience before the graduate practicum. The graduate 120 hours are not their only field requirement. RN-to-BSN students should confirm their current catalog because N492 has 30 hours, N493 has 80, and N496 has 10, which total 120, while Aspen's catalog heading says 110. Do not build the schedule around an unconfirmed total.

- Show how the proposed activities fill the required hours without relying on unrelated job duties.
- Identify direct-care activity in specialties that require at least 20 hours.
- Ask what site review applies to data, quality work, staff participation, or community activity.
Use OFE support before the arrangement becomes urgent
OFE assists with placement questions, approvals, documents, and alternative locations. Many New Mexico students begin with their workplace, but an employer-based project still needs review. Materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. Site forms may supplement the file.
Wait for the applicable Practicum Approval Letter before beginning hours. Approved time and required reports are recorded in ProjectConcert. A weekly check against the project plan and course objectives can show whether the student is building the intended experience. DNP immersion adds IRB and multi-course planning
Aspen's DNP includes 1,000 supervised immersion hours across eight 125-hour courses. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. A New Mexico DNP site needs an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with leadership and project expertise. The student should ask whether the partnership and access can continue across the expected sequence.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis, and a site may impose its own review.
