A Nursing Education student should ask about professional development or competency, while an Informatics student may need clinical applications or nursing informatics. This focus helps avoid sending a project request to a unit that cannot provide access or supervision.
Pennsylvania students should also account for travel across a health system. The preceptor's office, the project department, and the activities may not be located at the same campus. Confirm the approved location, expected site presence, and how supervision will work before treating a regional system as one interchangeable site.
A specialty match is more than an available RN
Aspen's MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. Administration may fit quality, safety, nursing operations, or leadership. Informatics can align with clinical systems and workflow. Education can involve staff competency, simulation, or teaching. Public Health may connect to prevention and community work. Forensic Nursing requires relevant trauma, correctional, advocacy, or other specialty expertise.
The proposed preceptor should be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and expertise relevant to the specialty. Verify the nurse's graduate education, license, current role, site relationship, project experience, and availability. The department must also be able to support the proposed activities through the course dates.
The Pennsylvania Board regulates nursing
The Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing licenses and regulates professional nurses and provides official applications, verification, laws, regulations, education, discipline, and Board information. Students should use it for Pennsylvania nursing-regulation questions.
Aspen University and the Office of Field Experience, or OFE, decide whether the academic site, preceptor, project, and documents satisfy program requirements. The State Board does not issue Aspen's approval letter. The Pennsylvania organization also controls site access, onboarding, privacy, agreements, and project review.
Build a calendar around the correct Aspen hours
Each Aspen MSN specialty includes a 120-hour practicum. Administration and Management divides it between N550 at 40 hours and N586AM at 80. Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health contain at least 20 direct-care hours within the total. Informatics and Administration do not have that direct-care minimum. The project plan should make these distinctions visible to the site.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience before their graduate practicum, so the graduate 120 hours are not their entire field obligation. RN-to-BSN students need to confirm the catalog that applies. N492 lists 30 hours, N493 lists 80, and N496 lists 10, which add to 120, while Aspen's catalog heading says 110. Direct confirmation should determine the student's schedule.

A site yes becomes official through OFE review
OFE assists with placement questions, approval, documents, and alternative locations. Many Pennsylvania students explore their employer, but workplace access does not waive review. Materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. The site may add its own forms.
The applicable Practicum Approval Letter must arrive before hours begin. After approval, required hours and reports are recorded in ProjectConcert. Entries should demonstrate how each activity served the approved project and course objectives rather than repeating ordinary employment duties.
DNP immersion requires continuity and IRB clearance
Aspen's DNP includes 1,000 supervised immersion hours across eight courses of 125 hours each. Aspen may approve and bank up to 500 verified prior precepted hours. A Pennsylvania DNP site needs an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with leadership and project expertise. Long-term access should be discussed before relying on the arrangement.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis. The organization may conduct its own research, quality, privacy, or project review.
