Build the search around a department and project
A good request identifies the department that owns the proposed work and gives it enough detail to respond. Explain that the Aspen practicum is project-based, name the specialty, summarize the project, state the dates and hours, and describe the expected preceptor credentials. Clarify that both the site and Aspen must approve the arrangement before the student starts.
The proposed MSN preceptor should be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and expertise relevant to the specialty. Ask about graduate education, current role, project background, site permission, and schedule. The department should also confirm that it can provide the access and activities needed through the course.

Columbia has health systems, public-health programs, education teams, informatics departments, quality offices, and administrative units. Charleston can support academic health, regional care, staff development, community health, and clinical systems work. Greenville and Spartanburg offer health-system operations, education, quality, and population settings. Rock Hill, Florence, Myrtle Beach, and other regional communities may fit hospital, public-health, and organizational projects.
Aspen's MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. Administration can align with operations or quality, Informatics with systems and workflow, Education with competency or teaching, and Public Health with prevention or community programming. Forensic Nursing needs relevant specialty expertise, potentially in trauma, correctional health, advocacy, or another appropriate service.
Students near the coast or in smaller inland communities can consider regional systems and county programs, provided the project remains feasible through the course dates. Ask whether seasonal workload, travel, or department staffing could limit meetings or approved activities.
The South Carolina Board handles nursing regulation
The South Carolina Board of Nursing within the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation protects the public by regulating nursing practice and licensure. Use the hour structure to screen site capacity
Each Aspen MSN specialty has a 120-hour practicum. Administration and Management divides it between N550 at 40 hours and N586AM at 80. Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include at least 20 direct-care hours within the total. Informatics and Administration have no direct-care minimum. A draft calendar should show how the department can support the correct activity mix.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience before the graduate practicum, so their field sequence extends beyond the final 120 hours. RN-to-BSN students need to confirm their applicable catalog. N492 lists 30 hours, N493 lists 80, and N496 lists 10, which add to 120, while the Aspen catalog heading says 110. Direct confirmation should determine the schedule.

A workplace option still needs OFE review
OFE assists with placement questions, approval, paperwork, and alternative locations. Many South Carolina students explore their workplace, but employment does not establish academic approval. Materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. Site forms may supplement the packet.
The applicable Practicum Approval Letter is required before hours begin. Approved time and required reports are then recorded in ProjectConcert. Students should tie each entry to the approved project and course objectives rather than treating routine job duties as practicum activity. DNP immersion requires on-site doctoral supervision
Aspen's DNP requires 1,000 supervised immersion hours in eight courses of 125 hours each. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. A South Carolina DNP site needs an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with relevant leadership and project expertise. The project relationship should be able to continue across courses.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis. The organization may conduct its own review as well.
