Let the specialty narrow the list
Aspen has no nurse practitioner tracks. Its MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health. Each includes 120 project-based practicum hours. The MSN preceptor must be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and relevant expertise. A general request for clinical hours is less effective than a project summary addressed to the department that can sponsor it.
Nursing Education can fit professional-development, simulation, academic, or community-education teams. Informatics can fit EHR training, clinical applications, HIM, data quality, or workflow departments. Administration can fit operations, patient safety, quality, workforce, or care coordination. Public Health can fit city or county health departments, schools, community programs, and population-health teams. Forensic Nursing may fit correctional health, emergency services, advocacy, or multidisciplinary response programs.
Use the Texas Board of Nursing for license facts
The Texas Board of Nursing regulates nursing licensure and nursing practice. Its official site provides license verification, the Nursing Practice Act and rules, practice guidance, enforcement information, education resources, and licensing services. Verify the proposed preceptor through the official Board resource and save the result with the CV and license report for Aspen's review.
The Texas Board does not issue Aspen's Practicum Approval Letter or decide whether the project meets course outcomes. Aspen and OFE make the academic approval decision. The Texas organization makes its own decision about student participation, project access, privacy, data, and agreements. A current RN license is necessary information but does not complete either approval.
Check the type of hours, not only the total
Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include at least 20 direct-care hours within the 120 MSN hours. Informatics and Administration do not have that minimum. Administration divides its requirement between N550 at 40 hours and N586AM at 80 hours. Ask whether the Texas site can support every required activity and identify where direct care will occur when applicable.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience before the 120-hour graduate practicum. RN-to-BSN course figures are N492 at 30 hours, N493 at 80 hours, and N496 at 10 hours. Those add to 120 while an Aspen catalog heading says 110. Confirm the catalog and course requirements that apply to you before giving a Texas site a schedule.
Large systems may have several approval gates
A Texas health system may route student projects through education, legal, compliance, privacy, research, data governance, or human resources. Ask which office owns the decision before sending documents. Aspen materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV.
OFE assists with placement questions, approvals, documents, and alternative locations. Many students explore their workplace, but an employee badge is not a placement approval. Wait for the applicable Practicum Approval Letter or DNP Immersion Approval Letter before beginning, then record hours and required reports in ProjectConcert.
DNP plans need long-term site access
Aspen DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours in eight 125-hour courses. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. A Texas DNP project requires an approved site and an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with relevant leadership and project expertise. Confirm that the site can support the project sequence, not just a short observation.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis. The Texas site may have its own review for projects involving records, patients, staff, or internal data. Explain the proposal accurately and obtain every required approval before starting restricted activity.
