Choose a side of the state before building the list
Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and the central Puget Sound region offer health systems, public-health agencies, education departments, community organizations, technology teams, and administrative offices. Olympia can fit state, policy, public-health, and quality work. Bellingham and Vancouver provide regional systems and community partners near the northern and southern borders.
Spokane anchors eastern Washington with health systems, higher education, public agencies, and regional programs. Yakima and the Tri-Cities can support population health, education, quality, administration, and community projects. Wenatchee and other central Washington communities may offer regional hospitals, schools, health districts, and multi-site teams. Cross-state proximity does not change the approved site address or licensing facts, so describe the proposed arrangement precisely.
The Washington Board confirms professional standing
The Washington State Board of Nursing regulates nursing licensing and practice and provides official license verification, applications, renewal, laws and rules, education resources, and complaint information. Use WABON's official verification service to review a proposed RN preceptor and keep the result with the CV and license report used for Aspen's approval process.
WABON does not select your Aspen preceptor or approve the academic project. Aspen and OFE make that decision, while the Washington organization controls site access and agreements. A license verification establishes professional information; it does not establish that the project, schedule, site, or supervision plan meets Aspen requirements.
Search for project ownership, not a clinical slot
Aspen offers no nurse practitioner tracks. Its MSN specialties are Administration and Management, Forensic Nursing, Informatics, Nursing Education, and Public Health, each with a 120-hour project-based practicum. The preceptor must be a site-affiliated RN with a master's degree and specialty-relevant expertise. A project request belongs with the department that owns the issue.
Nursing Education may fit professional development, simulation, academic nursing, or community education. Informatics may fit clinical applications, HIM, data quality, or EHR training. Administration may fit operations, quality, workforce, patient safety, or care coordination. Public Health may fit local health jurisdictions, schools, community agencies, or population-health teams. Forensic Nursing may fit advocacy, correctional health, emergency services, or violence-response programs.
Map course requirements to Washington access
Forensic Nursing, Nursing Education, and Public Health include at least 20 direct-care hours within the 120 MSN hours. Informatics and Administration do not have that minimum. Administration divides the hours between N550 at 40 and N586AM at 80. Verify that the site can provide any required direct-care component and the access needed for the project.
RN-to-MSN students complete undergraduate field experience before the graduate 120-hour practicum. RN-to-BSN materials list N492 at 30 hours, N493 at 80 hours, and N496 at 10 hours. The course figures total 120, while an Aspen catalog heading says 110. Confirm the applicable catalog and current instructions before finalizing a Washington schedule.
Ask about agreements at the first serious conversation
Large Washington organizations may route student projects through education, legal, compliance, privacy, research, or data offices. Approval materials can include a Site Affiliation or Practicum Site Agreement, signed Preceptor Agreement, preceptor CV and license report, student license report, Student Profile, and student CV. Identify the right reviewer before sending the packet.
OFE assists with placement questions, approvals, documentation, and alternative locations. Many students explore their workplace, but employment does not replace approval. Wait for the Practicum Approval Letter or DNP Immersion Approval Letter before starting, then record hours and required reports in ProjectConcert.
DNP students need a durable site relationship
Aspen DNP students complete 1,000 supervised immersion hours in eight 125-hour courses. Up to 500 verified prior precepted hours may be approved and banked. A Washington DNP site requires an on-site, doctoral-prepared, site-affiliated preceptor with relevant leadership and project expertise. Confirm access and supervision beyond a single course window.
IRB approval is required before data collection or analysis. A Washington host may also have internal project or privacy review. Be clear about records, staff involvement, patient contact, and operational data, and do not begin restricted activity until all applicable approvals are complete.
